Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a special place to celebrate the South Pacific and is just a monorail ride away from the most magical place on earth. The tropical theme and laid-back lifestyle can be enjoyed to the fullest at this resort, and this is especially true at the cafe located on the second floor. Kona Cafe offers traditional American meals served with an Asian twist alongside their sushi kitchen open for the public to see. This restaurant is the perfect way to start the day, since the quiet and relaxing nature of the whole resort is embodied right in the cafe. Before tackling the long lines and large crowds at the Magic Kingdom, a peaceful breakfast is necessary to ensure you are fully rested and prepared. The breakfast menu is unlike any other on Disney property, as it is full of island-inspired favorites. There are four different entrees featured, with the first being their world-famous Tonga Toast. It is not a trip to the Polynesian without this banana-stuffed french toast sitting in front of you. Rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with a strawberry compote, Tonga Toast has become a fan-favorite for many and is the reason why they choose to book a reservation here. Pro tip: if you really want to try the famous Tonga Toast and are unable to get a reservation, it is also offered at the resort’s quick-service restaurant, Capt. Cook’s. Just be sure to get there before 11:00 a.m., because this is when they stop serving breakfast. Another fan-favorite that has turned Kona Cafe into a must-stop destination is their Macadamia Nut Pancakes. While not as popular as Tonga Toast, Kona Cafe’s signature pancakes are unlike anything else you can find in the parks. The pancakes are topped with macadamia nut butter and pineapple sauce, making them a unique option if you love to order items special to a restaurant. If you are looking for something more simple, then you can always order Two Eggs-Any Style with home-fried potatoes. Just like the Tonga Toast and Macadamia Nut Pancakes, this dish comes with your choice of ham, spiced ham, bacon, or sausage. The last entrée on the breakfast menu is their plant-based option, the Loco Moco. This meal includes plant-based eggs, plant-based sausage, coconut milk, rice, and pico de gallo. I know all of these meals sound delicious, and it can be difficult deciding whether to go with something sweet or something savory. Luckily for you, you don't have to choose with Kona Cafe’s Big Kahuna. The Big Kahuna used to be on the breakfast menu, but you will no longer see it there when you are seated at your table. However, it can still be prepared for you if you ask your server. The meal includes those special pancakes with macadamia nut butter and pineapple sauce, french toast, eggs, home-fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage. Is that a lot of food? Yes. Is it all delicious? Yes. Did I still order Tonga Toast alongside the Big Kahuna during my last Kona Cafe breakfast? Absolutely. You can't go wrong with any one entree at Kona Cafe, but you really can't go wrong with a little bit of everything. All of this delicious food paired with Joffrey’s Hawaiian Kona Blend make this spot a must-do for all my breakfast lovers out there. If you want a quiet and relaxing meal before hitting the parks, then this is the place for you. If you want a mini buffet where you don't even have to leave your table, then the Big Kahuna is most certainly for you.
